Faulkner has cerebral palsy. The 28-year-old from Fowl River can’t use his legs or arms, and sometimes struggles with speech. But today, he will become the first of Terry and Nancy Faulkner’s children to earn a college degree.

Jason Pisano, 38, from West Warwick, is on a quest to run 51 marathons. Running a marathon is a challenge for anyone, but especially for Pisano, who has cerebral palsy. For 26.2 miles, he propels his wheelchair backward with his legs. The Cox Sports Marathon, in Providence, on May 2, was his 49th. After the race, he wrote this column on his goals and challenges. He typed it using the toes on his left foot.
